Hello, my name is Jahsoulay W. Walton, and I am a senior communications major at Southern Adventist University. Over my life I have realized the importance of listening to people and ensuring that everyone’s story is told. That is why I am pursuing a mass communication degree at Southern Adventist University with an emphasis in writing and editing.
There are many people in this world who don’t have the privilege of sharing what makes them unique because no one is willing to listen to them. I want to work my hardest to become a better storyteller so that I can share people’s stories.
As the youngest of six kids, I had difficulty being heard. It has always been hard for me to get people to listen. I was usually overshadowed by my older siblings, but through writing I have been able to break through to my family. I hope that through my writing other people will feel inclined to share more about themselves and write as well. The only way for us to adapt and do better as a society is to learn from each other. History that is not learned from, repeats itself. Having the ability to make an idea palatable for mass consumption is the best way to teach people of any age or background that they are capable of understanding more about themselves and others. Through this weekly blog, I want to find more stories and research individuals that inspire me so that I can share the knowledge that I acquire with more individuals.
