ABOUT THE PROJECT
ENJOY THE JOURNEY!
As Interactive Journalism students in the School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) at Southern Adventist University, we launched this exciting project to explore the topic of child development and what it takes to raise children successfully in today’s society.
We are exploring the topic in collaboration with Message magazine, an award-winning, bimonthly religious journal with thoughtful analysis of current events and issues affecting its predominantly black audience. Through our reporting, we will provide well-researched, relevant and reliable information to enable parents to navigate the complex issues they face while raising their children and tap into resources that can help their children to thrive. Along the way, we will update you – our audience – on our findings through weekly blog posts on social media.
The project – led by instructors Alva James-Johnson and Ryan Harrell – will be published in the September/October issue of Message magazine.
To learn more about our backgrounds and why we’re involved in this endeavor, please go to our “Meet the Team” tab and read through our profiles.
From there, we invite you to come back regularly to read our weekly posts or check us out on Instagram, TikTok and/or Facebook.
Hope you enjoy the journey!
